Plastic Bertrand Admits That He Pulled A Milli Vanilli

· by

Apparently Milli Vanill weren't the first major act to engage in lip-syncing for hits: Plastic Bertrand, performer of the new wave smash, "Ca Plane Pour Moi," was forced to admit this week that he didn't actually sing the song. Instead, Mr. Plastic says, he was approached by a producer named Lou Deprijck who insisted Bertrand pretend like he performed the song in exchange for some of the rights. But then Deprijck sued Bertrand in 2006, claiming he deserved money for the song since he's the one who performed it.

As the French are wont to do, they called in a team of linguists who proved that Plastic Bertrand couldn't have sung the song, since the original was sung by someone from the Ch'ti region of France, and Bertrand is from Brussels. Bertrand is considering a slander suit against Deprijck, but for now, Deprijck is due some paper. [AV Club]
