Pitchfork has finished its countdown of the best albums of 2009, and there are few surprises in the top 10. Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavilion snagged the #1 slot, with Dirty Projectors’ Bitte Orca and the eponymous debut from The xx following in second and third respectively.
Anyone suffering from list fatigue won’t find much to prick their interest here—Raekwon is the token hip-hop album in the top 10, the genial pop of Girls, Phoenix and Bat for Lashes feature prominently, and there are now so many lists that look so similar that the Pitchfork chart ultimately just feels like all the rest.

Jeez, I feel like I'm the only person who didn't like the xx album that much.
Big surprise! Noteable ommissions from the list:
Kings of Convenience-Declaration of Dependence
Miike Snow- Miike Snow
Tegan and Sara-Sainthood
P.O.S. - Never Better
Overall, predictable list.
it's basically just their best new music list.
i'm not sure why the flaming lips are up there though--did not feel that one at all.
Nah, mattycakes, there's plenty of people who found The xx to be dull (not me, but lots of my DiSer friends). The PF list is ok, but mine is actually the closest to being scientifically correct. I used test tubes, that Swiss particle accelerator, stuff like that.
Yeah, I thought the Flaming Lips album was particularly sh*tty.

I'm with you on The xx, mattycakes, it sounds really unremarkable to me.
Pitchfork is smoking crack!
Miike Snow should be top 10!!!
