Pitchfork Music Festival showcases the spirit of the Chicago music scene

· by

The many thousands of attendees at the Pitchfork Music Festival probably focused on Public Enemy and Sebadoh playing iconic albums and sets from a who’s who in underground rock featuring everyone from The Hold Steady, Vampire Weekend, and Spoon to forerunners in the genre Dinosaur Jr. In the midst of all this great music what they may have missed is the year-round music scene that made the festival possible. In its review of the festival, the Chicago Sun Times praised all of the club bookers, sound technicians, bartenders, security workers, musicians and dedicated fans that made the festival work even though they didn’t appear on stage. The article goes on to say that it’s just this local involvement that makes Pitchfork a celebration of what makes Chicago music great, a “stark contrast to the bigger, pricier, more corporate and often soulless” Lollapalooza.
