Jim DeRogatis has got the scoop on the initial lineup for the annual Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago, and it’s already promising to be quite an event. The “Don’t Look Back” day of the festival is going to be slightly different this year, with purchasers of tickets being invited to vote on the songs they want bands to play.
Among the groups participating in this scheme are veteran indie rockers Yo La Tengo, influential Touch & Go punks the Jesus Lizard, post-rockers Tortoise and Doug Martsch’s Built to Spill. This should breathe some much needed life into the “Don’t Look Back” format, and it will be fascinating to see which songs make it to each band’s setlists.
The festival takes place on July 17-19, and DeRogatis reveals that the National, Pharoahe Monch and the Pains of Being Pure at Heart will play on Saturday, July 18, while Grizzly Bear, the Walkmen and the Vivian Girls are confirmed for Sunday, July 19. The official Pitchfork Festival website doesn’t have any new information at the time of writing, but expect an update in the very near future.
I'm not excited yet, but I'm sure the lineup will get better.
Not excited? JESUS LIZARD for chrissakes. They can be the only band at the festival, and it will still be worth it.
maddycakes
maddycakes? Is that mattycakes' angry female alter ego?
I hope it's not my evil twin Madeline who I had to kill last year after she began raising all kind of murderous hell in my small, midwestern town. I'm in the mood for a sequel.
Sounds pretty good so far, but nothing crazy although Jesus Lizard and Pharoahe Monch a bill is pretty cool.
I never initially go crazy over a Pitchfork lineup, but I always have an amazing time every year I've gone.
