Philip Glass Receives the 2010 NEA Opera Honors Award


    Nonesuch have announced that renowned composer Philip Glass will receive the 2010 National Endowment for the Arts Opera Honors Award tonight at the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington, D.C. Glass has composed 24 operas, the most famous of which is his first, 1976’s Einstein on the Beach. The video above features a segment of that opera.Glass, along with fellow minimalists Steve Reich and Terry Riley, has had perhaps more of an impact on modern music than any other living composer.


    Tonight’s ceremony will feature appearances by figures such as Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, as well as a performance by the Washington National Opera Orchestra conducted by Philippe Auguin.
