The good people who raise money for Philadelphia's Fairmount Park are looking to make some coin with a multi-day music festival this summer. Modeled on Grant Park's Lollapalooza Festival, the Fairmount has already enlisted C3 Productions to petition the parks commission for the necessary permits to put on "a multi-day, multi-stage outdoor concert festival for 2008." For the full story, click here. This music festival should be something different. Having been to Philadelphia a few times, I would recommend they scrap the park idea and move the festival to the blocks and blocks of abandoned warehouses in South Philly. Book about sixty metal bands, start the music at midnight, and anybody from out of town who survives the full three days gets a free cheesesteak.
The blocks and blocks of abandoned warehouses in North Philly and West Philly could also work as festival sites.
