Phil Collins retires amid deafening roar of apathy

Financially blessed but artistically bankrupt for a good two decades by even the most generous estimation, Phil Collins has announced that he is effectively retiring from the music business, stating that though he will probably never stop writing, he has no plans for any further recording or touring.

Could his recent reunion tour with post-Peter Gabriel-lineup Genesis have had a little ghost-of-Christmas-past effect on Collins, bringing him face to face with the horror he wrought on the world via "Invisible Touch?" Has scoring one Disney flick too many put him at some kind of spiritual crossroads? Whatever his motivation, soccer moms the world over are weeping into their windbreakers right now to the soaring strains of "Against All Odds," and everyone who ever played air drums to "In the Air Tonight" is already scanning upcoming celebrity golf tournament listings with breathless anticipation.

I think you're being a little ingracious, Jim Allen. Phil's an easy target but you KNOW in middle school you liked him. He provided the soundtrack as you received your first handjob from the bully in your gym class who had a love/hate relationship with you and his own sexuality which has since caused you years of confusion and pent up aggression towards Phil Collins and Genesis.

wow, that's quite a logic jump, taco dude. But I will defend Collins only slightly on the the grounds that he played drums on a track or two of Brian Eno's Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy...

Phil can unretire anytime he desires. So long as it's for a Brand X reunion, otherwise Phil can snuggle up to Walt Disney and rest in the freezer.

Phil, I really miss Genesis & your 1st 4 solo albums were great, after that you lost me. Anyways, happy retirement!
But I don't think Genesis is truly a done deal yet. Please keep working on Peter & Steve.
That is one tour I would not miss!
