Pharrell Williams Confirms N.E.R.D. World Cup Song
The interest in soccer, and the forthcoming World Cup, from musicians only continues to grow, with Pharrell Williams the latest star to express his loose fandom for the sport. This follows news that Jay-Z and Alicia Keys won’t be writing a song for the competition, and interest from Hova and Diddy in investing in various clubs.
"We have submitted a track to FIFA which will hopefully be chosen as the official anthem,” Williams said in an interview with the Sun newspaper. "I follow football a little bit - it would be great if it happens.” The song that has been pitched is apparently a brand new N.E.R.D. track.
The tenuous N.E.R.D/soccer link apparently stems from a mutual jeweler Williams shares with David Beckham, who will presumably be royally rewarded if the group gets this lucrative gig at the World Cup. So who’s up next to join the soccer bandwagon? It can only be a question of time before Snoop gets in on this action.
