Peter Hook recruits Andy Rourke, Mani; forms Freebass

While a supergroup featuring alumni from The Smiths, New Order and Stone Roses would normally set the music world on fire, it's a bit of a head scratcher when all three members involved are bassists. So why exactly did Peter Hook, Andy Rourke Gary 'Mani' Mounfield combine to create the worst-named band in recent years? Hook explains:
''"It was just one drunken night and I floated the idea. And basically what gave me the most impetus was that everyone laughed. Three bass players on an album - Everyone absolutely pissed themselves."
The trio has apparently been writing songs together for awhile now, and have enough ready for an album. All they're missing is a vocalist, but the trio is wary of choosing just anybody.
''"You'''ve got Ian Brown, bloody Bobby Gillespie, Ian Curtis, Bernard (Sumner) and Morrissey. Those are big shoes to fill, especially collectively. We want someone young with something to say. Someone new. We don'''t want to be some kind of rock supergroup for the sake of being a supergroup."
As soon as they find that special somebody, we'll let you know.
