Libertines singer Pete Doherty sullied his image as a paragon of cultural sensitivity this past weekend, when he broke into an impromptu performance of nazi anthem "Deutschland, Deutschland Uber Alles" at a music festival in Berlin.
The lyrics come from the first stanza of "Deutschlandlied (The Song of Germany)," which was perverted to speak to feelings of racial superiority during the Third Reich. During Doherty's performance audience members began booing and shouting, until eventually festival organizers removed him from the stage. At this point, promoters probably just need to rig any stage on which Doherty's scheduled to perform with a net, just in case he decides to start trouble.

I really wish he would just go away.
Sounds like a lot of them were diggin it.
Negative, MFB! Pete is awesome. Honestly, the world needs less cultural sensativity. It was probably an accident, but so what. It's funny.
With nationalist sentiment rising steadily in Germany and all over Western Europe - this time directed against Muslims instead of Jews - I hardly think the world needs less "cultural sensativity [sic]." Doherty is an offensive clown. This story is resulting in some pretty interesting Google Ads though!
I'm not sure there was anything 'funny' about Nazi Germany.
Actually I'm pretty confident there wasn't.
Also how does one accidentally sing a song?
@Al
No one was digging it. Whistling in Europe is a form of booing, not cheering. If you watch a European soccer match the whistles coincide with moments when the home fans would typically boo in the US.
