Rumors that The Libertines will reform surface periodically, but this latest spate of stories actually seem to have some substance. Earlier this monthPete Doherty hinted that he had reconciled with Carl Barat and the duo were planning an album for 2010. Now, Doherty has indicated that the band will play major festivals next year.
Doherty claims that bass player John Hassall and drummer Gary Powell are on board for the reunion, and they are just waiting for a full commitment from Barat. "It's going to happen [The Libertines playing festivals], you know," Doherty said. "I spoke to John Hassall, he's well up for it." Referring to Powell, he claimed: "He said he would [play the shows]."
Work with Babyshambles and a burgeoning solo career clearly aren’t enough for Doherty, who is hell-bent on getting The Libertines back together. "Maybe I could reform The Libertines without [Barat], like he did without me,” he said. "I'll put an advert in NME: 'Carlos lookalike required'."
