Pet Shop Boys Releasing Ballet Soundtrack

Pet Shop Boys' live shows are usually theatrical affairs, so the band has taken this fascination with the flamboyant to its logical conclusion and are releasing the soundtrack to a ballet. The Most Incredible Thing will be released on March 14, and it’s based on a production of the same name that will premiere in London in the spring.

The Most Incredible Thing is a collaboration with choreographer Javier De Frutos and Britain’s influential dance theatre Sadler’s Wells, and those combined talents have been working on the project since 2007. The mix of the Pet Shop Boys’ familiar electronic pop direction and some overt orchestral flourishes should be fascinating to hear.

“This is a very exciting project to be part of" reads a statement from the band. "In the past we have written dance music so to write music for a ballet seems like a logical development. Also we have always been fascinated by giving our music a theatrical context.”
