Penn Badgley, best known for his role as Dan Humphrey on Gossip Girl (much to his chagrin, apparently), plays Jeff Buckley in the indie biopic Greetings From Tim Buckley, which premiered last week at the Toronto International Film Festival. Greetings cast Badgley as the brooding songwriter who, years before recording his famed Grace album, wrestled with some serious daddy issues while performing a tribute concert for the elder Buckley.
For the part, Badgley took guitar lessons and trained with a voice coach to perfect Buckley's distinct brand of singing. During an interview with Vulture, he admitted to "nailing" his audition for the film, due in some small part to his ability to mimic the singer's vocal style. Badgley also talked briefly about the end of Gossip Girl, his fear of being typecast, and getting paid to show up at parties. Visit Vulture for the full interview.
