Canadian electronic artist Peaches is no stranger to shocking audiences. Known for bending the rules both lyrically and stylistically, the singer/performer is nothing if not frank. Last week she released the trailer for Peaches Does Herself, her latest oddball musical for a lady of many hats--she wrote, directed, scored, and stars in the project.
The show is loosely based on Peaches' own life, a sort of nostalgic romp through her musical history, something she dubs 'anti-jukebox.' Of course, it would not be a Peaches production without a shock element, which in this case involves exploding penises. If you're a fan of hers you've probably grown accustomed to not asking 'why?' However, she explained to Spinner: "It should be uncomfortable, like 'Is this a joke?'" She also pointed out that the exploding penises were made by Babes in Horny, a company that manufactures dildos, so thankfully the showy singer doesn't balk when it comes to high quality sex playthings.
The official description for Peaches Does Herself can be found on Peaches' website: "The story of a young woman who, inspired by a 65-year-old stripper, begins to make sexually forthright music. Her popularity grows and she becomes what her fans expect her to be: transsexual. She falls in love with a beautiful she-male, but gets her heart broken and then ventures on a path of self-discovery."
A taping of the show premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. No announcements yet of future screenings. Watch the trailer below:
