“Peaches Christ Superstar” Gets Unlikely Support From Andrew Lloyd Webber And Tim Rice

Peaches Christ Superstar – the unholy musical meeting of Peaches and Jesus Christ Superstar – was actually approved by composers Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. According to Peaches, the show’s premiere in Germany – where she has lived for years – was nearly cancelled after concerns arose that she would “desecrate the original.” Rice and Lloyd Webber decided to watch an early version of the stage show, and apparently liked what they saw enough to defend both Peaches and her version of the rock opera from would be detractors. With the backing of the original composers, Peaches was able to move forward with her plan to do a one-woman version of the show, and to live out a long-term dream:

“I’ve had this idea since I was about 14, when I used to listen to the Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack and just act it out by myself. I never really entertained the idea as something that I would do in front of people until [a Berlin] theatre asked me to do a production,” Peaches told Billboard.

Per her website, Peaches Christ Superstar will feature the electro star in pretty much every role, including “Jesus, Maria Magdalena, the disciples and the Pharisees.” Rapper-songwriter Chilly Gonzales will accompany her on piano.
