Pavement's Brighten the Corners Reissued with Five Unreleased Tracks

The penultimate Pavement studio album, Brighten the Corners, is set for a deluxe vinyl reissue via Matador on June 23. Matador should be praised for their careful handling of the band’s back catalog, which has steadily been reissued with a stack of bonus materials that are actually worth owning.

The vinyl edition of Brighten the Corners will be loaded with the same goodies that were on the CD reissue. But it also includes eight tracks not featured on the CD, five of which have never been released. This makes it an essential purchase for Pavement fans, who are still whiling away the hours waiting for a reunion from the band.

Stephen Malkmus has poured scorn on the rumors that the band will reunite, and his latest prog-tastic incarnation of the Jicks seems to be keeping him very busy. Guitarist Scott “Spiral Stairs” Kannberg has been more enthusiastic about the idea, but he’s going to have to wait a while before that lucrative pay day rolls around.

I wouldn't be psyched about a possible for the oldies tour so much as getting spiral scratch and Malkmus back in the studio together. Malkmus needs a foil, and he hasn't have a good one since Pavement broke up. Time to end the Jicks ego-indulgence and make some thought-provoking music again.
