Exclusive: Pavement Gets ATP Fest To Reverse Ban On Monotonix

If you've heard of Israeli garage trio Monotonix, you no doubt also know about its thoroughly chaotic live presence: At a Montonix show, you're just as likely to get a face full of sweat as you are to hear some great music, and that's the way the band likes it. But sometimes the fun gets a bit too chaotic. After Monotonix performed at the ATP festival in 2008, which was curated by Mike Patton and the Melvins, an overzealous fan tackled a festival representative for no apparent reason. The result: Monotonix was banned by the Butlin's Country Club, which hosts the event.

Alas, no ban is too strong for the power of Pavement. At the request of Bob Nastanovich, Monotonix will be back in the ATP lineup this year, but with a twist. ATP organizers compromised by asking the band to perform onstage -- something Monotonix has always refused to do. We're interested to see if the frenzy can be confined to the stage. Who knows, maybe lead singer Ami will pass around vials of his sweat to compensate.

The band's Fun, Fun, Fun/Try, Try, Try is out on Drag City in June, and a little later this month Montonix is touring Europe. Dates are as follows:
