Paul McCartney To Play Olympics Opening Ceremony

All eyes will be on London this summer for the Olympics, which appears to have an unusually high percentage of musical events surrounding it. Blur will headline a show in Hyde Park along with New Order and the Specials to mark the end of the event, and now Paul McCartney has been conformed for the official opening ceremony.

The lavish event is being staged by Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle, and will take place on July 27. “I’ve been booked,” McCartney confirmed on BBC 5 Live yesterday. It marks a busy time for the former Beatle, who just re-released his 1971 solo album Ram and made an appearance at the Queen’s Jubilee concert in London. [via NME]
