Paul McCartney Picks Up His Catalog And Leaves EMI

It seems like every story regarding any record label these days is about EMI and how bad the company is doing. Hate to pile on, but here's another: Paul McCarntey, he of some band called "Wings," has decided to take the rights to sell his back catalog of 50 post-Beatles albums away from EMI, and instead gown to independent Concord Music Group. McCarntey's beef with EMI runs back to when he opted out of his contract in 2007, and now that he has control of his 1970-2006 catalog, he's decided to snatch those from the label too. The Rolling Stones have also left EMI, buying their masters back, and leaving as well. The Beatles, however, remain EMI's biggest cash cows. [WSJ]

Sounds about right.

I can't believe his post-Beatles catalog is that big...

Yeah, I was surprised too. But then I started doing the math, and it seems right. It includes all the Wings album, all those Wings comps (probably as many as the proper albums) his solo albums, his live albums, and his comps.
