Paul McCartney, Madonna, Quincy Jones Pay Tribute to Michael Jackson

The music world has shuddered to a halt today as everyone clamors to pay tribute to Michael Jackson. The tributes range from people who knew Jackson or were at least on a similar level to him (Madonna, Paul McCartney) to various indie rock luminaries (Colin Meloy, Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite).

Madonna’s brief statement simply reads: “I can’t stop crying over the sad news. The world has lost one of the greats, but his music will live on forever!” McCartney, who worked with Jackson on several occasions, had these moving words to say: “He was a massively talented boy man with a gentle soul. His music will be remembered forever and my memories of our time together will be happy ones.”

His former wife, Lisa Maria Presley, also weighed in with a few words: “I am so very sad and confused with every emotion possible, I am heartbroken for his children who I know were everything to him and for his family. This is such a massive loss on so many levels, words fail me.”

Some of the tributes definitely come from eyebrow-raising sources (does anyone really need to know what Boom Bip, Fall Out Boy and the Crystal Method are feeling right now?) but the last word goes to his longtime friend and producer, Quincy Jones: “To this day, the music we created together on Off The Wall, Thriller and Bad is played in every corner of the world and the reason for that is because he had it all… talent, grace, professionalism and dedication. He was the consummate entertainer and his contributions and legacy will be felt upon the world forever.”
