If the title of this detective novel Patti Smith is writing isn't Because the Night, it is a totally wasted opportunity.
The Guardian reports that prolific poet and proto-punk legend Patti Smith is "68 percent" of the way through authoring a detective story set in England. Smith told the paper that while spending time in a church located in St. Giles-on-the-Fields in London, she found the inspiration to begin penning her first novel, a follow-up to her well-received book of memoirs, Just Kids.
Smith says the work is inspired by Sherlock Holmes and the writing style of Mickey Spillane. She's also working on a new album influenced by poet Dylan Thomas' house Saint Francis of Assisi. When someone with unlimited credibility like Smith ventures off the beaten path with a creative experiment, it's not only expected, but encouraged. [The Daily Swarm]
