You have to hand it to Patrick Carney of The Black Keys, the guy isn’t afraid to speak his mind. Whether it were calling Sean Parker an asshole or mocking Nickelback, the guy doesn’t back down from making controversial statement. His latest targets are veteran rockers Van Halen.
In an interview with Rolling Stone where the drummer discussed a number of topics including his band's upcoming Lollapalooza gig, the juiciest bit of info came when he blasted Van Halen for firing original bassist Michael Anthony while hiring Eddie Van Halen’s then 17-year-old son Wolfgang to take his place. While not completely hating on the job Wolfie has done, Carney questioned the rationale behind the decision.
“I mean, sure, Eddie Van Halen's son is a pretty good bass player and he's a 20-year-old kid and that's cool, but like, what the fuck is that?” he said. “That's fucking retarded. If someone is able to be in a band for 30 years and then people are okay with replacing him with a 17-year-old, they're obviously motherfucking assholes, right?”
When asked if he enjoyed the show, he gave a simple answer.
“No. Not at all. It felt flat. It didn't sound good ”
