This season, Parks and Recreation’s Donna will be tweeting. The parks department worker’s account will be inspired by the 140-characters-or-less musings of her offscreen counterpart, comedian Retta.
Vulture reports that in the new fifth season of the NBC comedy, premiering Sept. 20, Donna will give her opinion about a fake new movie. Retta says, “I’ve watched the movie. It’s really bad, but Donna loves it.” The best part? Retta herself will create Donna’s tweets: “The writers are gonna let me do some of my own lines. People who know me will think it’s hilarious.”
Retta has become a beloved presence on Twitter (@unfoRETTAble) for her hilarious commentary on television. Jezebel even named her The Best TV Recapper on the Internet. She’s currently tweeting recaps of the third season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Retta’s also excited to continue tweeting about the NBC drama Smash when it returns for its second season: “I’m pretty excited. Jennifer Hudson’s gonna be on and I wanna see if there will be some diva action between her and Megan Hilty.”
Unfortunately, Donna fans will have to settle for the onscreen tweets and Retta’s own account, because for now the character’s Twitter will not exist in real life.
