Panicking American Idol Might Have Manufactured Bowersox Quitting Story

Among the dwindling multitudes tuning in to American Idol on a weekly basis, it's pretty certain that Crystal Bowersox will be one of the final contestants on the show. As producers on the show face losing in the ratings to Dancing With the Stars and preparing for life P.C. (post Cowell), a story emerged that Bowersox tearfully confided in Ryan Seacrest that she was going to quit the show, with Seacrest convincing her to stay by telling her a heartwarming story about buying his mother a house. The only problem with the scenario? It might not have happened. Details emerging from a recent interview with ousted contestant and Bowersox confidante Katelyn Epperly indicate that a Bowersox/Seacrest conversation did take place, but that at no point did Bowersox mention quitting. As the Idol franchise circles the drain, this early show of desperation could bode well for even better invented contestant stories coming later in the season. [Billboard]
