P-Funk's Mothership Lands At The Smithsonian

A version of Parliment-Funkadelic's iconic Mothership prop will be on display at the Smithsonian Institution's Museum of African American History and Culture when it opens its doors in 2015. The ship will be a permanent part of the museum's music exhibition. While the ship in question is certainly a major acquisition, it isn't exactly the most famous incarnation. The one on display was created in the mid-1990s. The original was dumped in a Maryland junkyard in 1982 when the band's management company was facing financial issues. The Smithsonian tried to trace the original ship, but had no luck. Someone call Nicolas Cage! [Rolling Stone]
