A group of musicians calling itself the Overdub Tampering Committee has announced its mission to ironically punish those downloading illegally leaked recordings via Soulseek, OiNK, The Pirate Bay, Limewire and various other sources on the Internet. The group stated that after downloading (illegally?) a copy of a popular rock album four years ago, they were surprised to find a death metal tune included in the mix. Amused by the fact that there are people out there who think that Bon Jovi just got really, really heavy for that one song, their mission to monkeywrench was born. The Overdub Tampering Committee went on to say that the current policy of the RIAA is Draconian, and the pure annoyance of not getting a quality product would mean more to those illegally obtaining the album than the threat of prosecution. While the group doesn’t see their approach as a long-term solution to the problem of illegal downloads, they hope that their project will provoke renewed discussion on the matter. [Tripwire]
