Stars of Once up for Oscar

Although one of 2007's most loved films didn't score a nod for best picture, one of the songs from Once will vie for best original song. "Falling Slowly," written by Once stars Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, will compete against three tunes from Enchanted and one from August Rush. Surprisingly snubbed in the category were any of Eddie Vedder's songs for Into the Wild.

In other Oscar-related news, we told you earlier how and why Jonny Greenwood's score for There Will Be Blood didn't get nominated for best original score. As far as expectations that were seen through, Marion Cotillard received a best actress nomination for her portrayal of Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose, and Cate Blanchett is up for best supporting actress for her gender-bending take on Bob Dylan in I'm Not There. Both Cotillard and Blanchett are critic's favorites to win those awards.
