Of Montreal have always taken great interest in their album art-- their 2007 album Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? unfolded into a flower-like shape. For their upcoming album, Skeletal Lamping, however, the band is moving into a whole other stratosphere when it comes to packaging—tote bags, t-shirts, paper lanterns, buttons and wall decals.

The band wants to move beyond traditional packaging means, and understand that  fans are just going to download the album anyway. So, they are offering different iterations of the album’s cover art, in the forms mentioned above, along with a CD and LP version, and each comes with a full digital download of the album.
The move is perhaps the most forward thinking change-up of CD packaging since those paper CD books were introduced, and perhaps the most out there idea for album packaging. Ever.

Skeletal Lamping is due out on October 7 via Polyvinyl.
