The campaign of Barack Obama took a chance that indie rock fans would rise before noon in effort to promote North Carolina’s One-Stop Early Voting program. The program, which allows voters to both register and vote at the same time, began April 17 and will run through May 3. As incentive, Obama’s campaign gave out free tickets in Forsythe, Guilford, Randolph, Almanace, Orange, Durham, and Wake Counties during the early hours of April 24.
The Change Rocks shows will take place on May 1 and May 2 and will feature Canada’s the Arcade Fire and Superchunk, who call North Carolina home. And no, the shows will not be early too. [Merge]
Arcade Fire »

Things the Arcade Fire should maybe stay out of: an election that they themselves cannot vote in (unless John McCain has plans for conquering Canada), covering Sam Cooke (completely inexcusable on so many levels), and, well, a lot of other things (like stealing the title of their supposedly amazing album from a Pulitzer Prize winning author's novel). But my anti-Arcade Fire bias aside, I am voting for Obama and I do love me some Superchunk so this is pretty rad. And, you know, anything to get out the vote! Let's just hope these shows follow a win for Obama—unlike the last ones.
