Oasis can’t keep out of the news lately. Before getting attacked by a fan at the Virgin Festival this weekend, Noel Gallagher had been fervently updating fans on their every movement via his (sometimes controversial) blog. The band are releasing a new album, Dig Out Your Soul, in October, but the recent whirlwind of controversy surrounding the Gallagher brothers has completely overshadowed the record.Noel was attacked by 47-year-old Daniel Sullivan while on stage in Toronto on Sunday and was taken to hospital with a suspected fractured rib and ligament damage. Sullivan was arrested and has already appeared in court on an assault charge. He has another court date scheduled for October 24. Oasis are due to play in London, Ontario, tonight, but the show may be canceled depending on Noel’s health.
Further news reports claim the incident with Sullivan brought a halt to a projected collaboration with Paul Weller, who was due to appear onstage with the band at the festival. Meanwhile, some Oasis fans have allegedly made “wanted: dead or alive” calls to Sullivan and are offering his home address and phone number to Oasis websites (according to this NME report). An investigation into how the incident occurred is currently being undertaken by security officials at the venue.
