It’s still 17 years and counting since My Bloody Valentine's Loveless engulfed listeners in a great fuzzy wall of tremolo and distortion. Anxious American fans have been nervously tapping their fingers for some U.S. shows following the announcement of a slew of European dates, and at last the news is here.
Although a full U.S. tour is still pending, Kevin Shields, who clearly knows how to stage a comeback in style, has been charged with curating the first East Coast incarnation of the All Tomorrow's Parties Festival. First, the technical details: The festival will take place on September 19-21 at Kutshers Country Club in Monticello, New York. All 3000 tickets for the three-day event will go on sale this Friday, and will be available at the ATP website.
Now, the lineup. And boy, does it look good. Naturally, My Bloody Valentine will be performing a full set, which almost justifies the entrance fee in itself. But joining them will be a bunch of post rockers and indie-rock legends such as Tortoise, Mogwai, Shellac, the Meat Puppets, and Thurston Moore. Shields even gives us a taste of what he’s listening to these days by finding space for the full-on noise assault of Fuck Buttons. Here’s the full lineup so far.
