Nosaj Thing Announces New Album ‘Parallels’ With Mellow Single “All Points Back to U” — Listen

The electronic producer will also head out on an expansive North American tour

Jason Chung, the Los Angeles-based producer known as Nosaj Thing, has announced a new album, Parallels. He shared the lead single, “All Points Back to U,” featuring Steve Spacek of the British electronic music band, Spacek. He also announced an expansive batch of summer and fall North American tour dates.

“All Points Back to U” features several musical elements that are familiar to fans of Chung’s production: minimal house beats, ambient sound textures, and grimy bass lines. Spacek’s vocals sound like a lo-fi whisper against the electronic backdrop created by Chung. “Everyone I ask says the same, so there’s only one conclusion / Look at it from my point of view, there’s really no confusion / It all points back to you,” he sings, with a melancholic somberness coating each note. The track builds slowly with minimal additions of drum pads, reverb-drenched midi strings, and faraway-sounding harmonies. Spacek tries to remove himself from doing the blaming, singing, “I ain’t trying to point fingers, but it all points back to you.” Pensive, dramatic, and downcast, Chung’s first Parallels single plays out like a late night diary entry, decorated by glimmering electronic production.

In a press release, Chung detailed the making of Parallels. Apparently, it wasn’t the album he actually intended to release, but due to stolen gear, Chung “lost everything.” The setback proved to be ultimately positive for the producer, though, stating that it was “the slap in the face I needed to get me to up my work ethic and quality control.” He also spoke about his albums, including 2015’s Fated, saying that they “reflected the anxiety of living inside my own imagination.” On the other hand, Parralels is “all about trying new things, creating new worlds.”

The album is set to drop on September 8 via Innovative Leisure. You can pre-order it here. Below, check out the album’s tracklist and Chung’s upcoming tour dates.
