South by Southwest: a huge musical get together in Austin. North by Northwest: a classic Hitchcock film. North by Northeast: another fest going down in Toronto June 6-10. South by Southeast? Well, that would just kind of leave you lost in the heart of Dixie, which might not be a good thing. Remember Deliverance?
Although not as well known as its Texas counterpart, North by Northeast is now in its thirteenth year. And boasting some pretty big names this year. Those scheduled to play include the National, Dinosaur Jr. (pictured), Voxtrot, Soundtrack of Our Lives, Urge Overkill (they're still around?), Buffalo Tom, Fountains of Wayne, Kathleen Edwards, and Cancer Bats. An accompanying film festival will feature many a music-themed doc, including ones on George Clinton, CBGB's, and the Glastonbury Festival. Head to the fest's website for all the details.
