Nokia prepares to launch Comes With Music amid dire predictions
Nokia is getting behind its Comes With Music rollout, occuring on October 16. The company showcased a new flagship device, the Nokia 5800, which will be cautiously marketed as a competitor to Apple's iPhone. Early reviews on the phone have been short of raves, but any opinion about hardware is taking a back seat to Nokia's "all you can eat" music plan. While the company is pitching Comes With Music as revolutionary, some in the industry are pointing to the plan's lack of utility as a damning fault. Any tracks downloaded on Comes With Music are locked via DRM to the phone and computer that downloaded them. The tunes won't go on an iPod, a mix, or anywhere else. This lack of accessibilty, combined with previous predictions that Nokia could take a bath on fees, have some analysts offering grim predictions about the program's future. We must remember, however, that if nothing is ventured, we'll be tethered to iTunes for the rest of our lives. [CrunchGear] and [Hypebot]
