Noel Gallagher momentarily took a break from his favorite activity -- complaining -- to offer up a rare bit of praise...for drugs. The perenially grumpy lead songwriter of Oasis told an Italian newspaper that he regularly just said yes until a little over a decade ago:
"Up until 1998 I must have spent £1 million on drugs -- then I stopped, because it is bad for your health, brain, life and for people around you."
Gallagher, who just couldn't help himself, then went back to what he's arguably become most famous for as of late: insulting other musicians, beginning with Coldplay's drug-free lead singer.
"I look at Chris Martin, who says he has never taken drugs in his life, and I think he is an idiot. Doing drugs is the most beautiful thing about being in a rock band."
Gallagher went on to reiterate his disdain for musicians who do annoying things such as use their fame to help the poor or draw attention to the plight of the less fortunate -- in case you missed his annoyance the first time around:
"At a U2 or Coldplay concert there is always a message about poor people or people dying from hunger. OK, but can't we just have a nice evening? Do we always have to feel guilty?"
The millionaire musician then went back to his normal activity of yelling at those damn kids to get off his lawn and mumbling about how things were better back in his day. [NME, Angry Ape]
Yeah, he's super cocky, but he has so many quotables. I'm a fan.
