Noel Gallager calls Keane "shit," heaps praise on U2

Dig Out Your Soul, the seventh studio album from loudmouthed Mancunians Oasis, is released tomorrow. In an attempt to raise interest in the band’s latest collection of recycled Beatles/Lennon riffs, Noel Gallagher has once again been stirring up trouble in the media. The latest band to trouble the older Gallagher brother is Keane, the sub-Coldplay British rockers whom Noel has previously branded “twats."

Now Noel says of Keane’s vaunted new direction: “No matter what direction Keane take, it doesn't matter - they'll still be shit." In contrast, he heaps praise on fellow blogger Bono, of whom he says: “People will not accept that Bono is sincere - in this cynical age, they think he's really just a cunt. But he's not." And Noel doesn’t stop there in his praise. He also talks up U2, saying: "I fucking love U2 and I always have done - I love the size of that band. Whether you like them or not, you cannot deny that U2 have written some great fucking songs.”

In an amusing footnote to the hype surrounding Dig Out Your Soul, parallels have been drawn between Oasis and ageing Christian rocker Cliff Richard. The melody of the second song on the record, “The Turning,” bears a remarkable resemblance to Richard’s 1976 hit “Devil Woman.” Although in a side-by-side comparison between the two, the Richard song sounds a lot less labored than the Gallager brothers’ latest effort. You can judge for yourself by listening to the two songs here and here. [via NME]

Noel Gallagher is a douchecanoe. Certifiable. And U2 SUCKS.

Praise be that someone is still douche enough to be bombastically entertaining (and I'm not talking about the music). Does anyone listen to the Russell Brand radio show podcast? Noel comes on every single blessed week, and he's hyterical.

Des,
say what you want about Oasis, but don't throw U2 into this,
they are rock gods(bring the hate), AND Keane are fantastic, probably one of a few bands that have really stepped up and do anything original theses days... great sound!

Sorry man, I can't stand Bono.

If nothing else, this post has introduced me to the great word "douchecanoe."

'recycled Beatles/Lennon riffs' is way too big a compliment for this record.

U2 are the best band in the world hands down no contest!!!!! and Bono is King. Noel is fantastic. Keane is alright and des! kinda stinks for the u2 bashing.

Does sour grapes come to mind? He's always been a goon anyways and not very original musically either...a handful of decent songs, but that's it. Keane are more innovative than Oasis is, at least recently. At least Keane don't try to rehash the same album over and over again. And Keane's vocals are better....and Keane's songwriting is better....just a personal opinion, but Noel really doesn't know what he's saying, and esp. after 35 drinks.

I'm not a huge fan of Keane, but the Gallagher brothers are such a loathsome pair with their permanent slagging off just about everyone (and ignorance of the fact they havn't made a good album in over 10 years) that I'm always inclined to take the side of whoever they're abusing.

It seems like Noel likes listening to himself talk, but unfortunatley has nothing to say...as of today Keane has taken the #1 spot on the charts, bumping Oasis down a notch. I'd guess that matters to Keane a bit more that what the Gallaghers have to say.
