Apparently the overlap between indie rock fans and fans of the Simon Cowell-produced X Factor is tiny, because otherwise, we would have heard about this by now: Apparently, Willis Earl Beal, recent blog hype, was on the U.S. version of the show last year, and made it to the "bootcamp" round of auditions. There's video proof of it and everything: He talks about wanting tacos, and makes jokes about wanting to be menacing, and seems to be doing the whole thing as part of a performance art joke. He then says he's in the contest to try to prove that a real artist could come out of a contest like X Factor. Point proven.
Beal's XL debut is out on April 3.
