With Pitchfork.tv and AOL Radio drawing significant amount of hype, it's only natural that NME, top of the British music press pops, would enter the online media market. NME Radio is set to launch June 24, with interviews with Ricky Gervais and two other mainstays of The Ricky Gervais Show, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington already available. But before the channel officially launches, NME is giving its readers a chance to select which song will be the first the channel ever plays. The current leaders reflect British tastes quite well, Muse's "Knights of Cydonia," Coldplay's "Bigger Stronger," and The Killers' "Mr. Brightside." Also in contention are The Strokes, The Beatles, The Ramones, and The Who, all of whom are being trumped by the more contemporary bands thanks to massive message board hype. [NME]
