NME Announces Its 50 Best New Bands Of 2010

It’s the midway point in the year and NME has decided it is time to determine who are the best new artists to emerge in 2010. The list will no doubt provoke debate—the Drums are at number 2 on the list, even thought their moment in the sun seemed to quickly come and go in 2009, while the hype about Sleigh Bells was also well established prior to this year.

It’s an indie-centric list, as you’d probably expect from the publication, with Pitchfork favorites Dom and Zola Jesus vying for space with the ubiquitous Best Coast, who (perhaps unsurprisingly) top the list. The best part about the entire venture is this Soundcloud mix featuring all 50 bands (below), which offers a chance to hear how they fare.

Interesting to see Free Energy left off. Not complaining in particular, just wondering if it's a British v. American thing.

NME hates on Free Energy gave them their worst review too; which makes sense since Best Coast obviously hasn't been done before.

half the bands on this list dont have 5 good songs let alone an album like free energy (freelance whales at 26 for example)

And has anyone seen JJ live its like watching a train wreck not to mention all these bands almost came out in 09
