The NME Cool List. Great. It's like junior high but for adults (Do you think I'm good-looking? Y or N). For what it's worth, the list is in the new issue which hit newstands today. Or if you don't want to buy it, we've got the list here.
According to Drowned in Sound, which provides said list in non-NME magazine form, the magazine asserts on this year's list that "Punk Is Cool.' Sorry, NME, looks like The Washington Post scooped you on that story.
"Thirty years after the height of punk there are a whole load of new bands making wild and passionate noise," says NME Editor Conor McNicholas. "But it takes more than just great music to make it to the top of The Cool List - these people effortlessly set trends with every breath they take - and it's great to see that people like Keith Richards prove that you don't have to be young to do this!"
Yes, Keith Richards: the coolest friggin old dude. Well, since the death of Hunter S. Thompson.
And since this is America, you can weigh in on the list here, and cast your vote. Go for it! Or if you have a way with words, spout off at letters@nme.com. Maybe someone can explain how Thom Yorke drops from number nine to number 12 this year. Is there an algorithm involved in this process or what?

I've officially stopped caring about even finding out if the new NME hype bands are any good at all. Who are Gallows? I dunno, and I'm not gonna google it either. I feel a weight lifting... |

Ryan Jarman's a legend, should have been number one. And Yannis from Foals should be higher. If you don't know who Cribs and Foals are, find out you idiot. |
