
Remember back in May when Trent Reznor put out NIN's The Slip for free on his website? Well, it seems that Trent isn’t completely over CD’s as a medium, because on July 22, it will be available in stores as either a CD (with a DVD, and big booklet) or as a limited edition vinyl.
So this is the full arc of “Pulling a Radiohead”: releasing the album online for free, then putting out a physical copy a few months later in hopes that the truly devoted will actually buy it. At some point, this has to backfire, right?
What do you mean, "At some point, this has to backfire"? Why would it backfire? What would that entail?
