Nick Cave Writing Screenplay For Remake Of 'The Crow'

There may be a new Grinderman album imminent, but Nick Cave appears to be focusing his attention on the film world. The singer has already been working on a filmed version of his The Death of Bunny Munro book, which may emerge as a TV mini-series, and now rumors are surfacing that Cave is planning a screenplay for a remake of the cult 1994 action feature, The Crow.

Stephen Norrington, who helmed the first Blade movie, is in the directors chair for the remake, and the IMDB message board attached to the film is full of typically hilarious rumor and speculation (Russell Brand in the Brandon Lee role, anyone?). Norrington is said to have written an initial script for the remake, which Cave is now revising.

This would certainly mark a departure from Cave’s written work for John Hilcoat’s films, although he’s apparently been prepared to make the step up to more mainstream fare for quite a while—as anyone who recalls the rumors of his spectacular (and, sadly, as-yet unfilmed) screenplay for Gladiator2 will realize.
