Nick Cave scores The Road

We imagine the production meeting going something like this:

"Okay, we've got a film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's novel The Road. Who can we get to provide the score for this nightmarish, post-apocalyptic vision of a world filled with cannibals, pederasts, and savage marauders?"

 "Well, Jonathan Richman's busy."

"Okay, how about Katy Perry?"

"Tough one. She did sell her soul to the devil after all, and he's hell on wheels to negotiate with."

"Randy Newman?"

"Nope, he's knee deep in Toy Story XIV"

"(sigh) Okay...Gladys, put me through to Nick Cave."

Remaining in his Nightmares-R-Us comfort zone, Cave will indeed be scoring The Road. The project should be right in the Aussie spook-rock king's wheelhouse, as he's already provided music for dark cinematic visions such as Ghosts of the Civil Dead and The Proposition, so The Road (due out November 26) should fit right into his aesthetic. Now if he'd only try to stretch himself a little bit and go for some of that Pixar action.

Not to mention the apocalyptic visionary genius of Dumb & Dumber (with Red Right Hand).
