Nick Cave’s 2009 novel The Death of Bunny Munro might not be his finest hour, but the singer is clearly still enamored by his latest dip into literary waters. Cave announced that a Bunny Munro movie is forthcoming when he spoke recently at the Dundee Literary Festival, and he confirmed Ray Winstone is set to star in the film.
Cave originally envisioned Bunny Munro as a screenplay, and had already talked about the concept to Winstone when he was fleshing out the script. "[Ray] really loved the script when we first handed it to him," said Cave. "He was really excited about it, and really distressed when it kinda tanked and never got made."
Winstone already worked with Cave by bringing his screenplay for The Proposition to life, and the singer hopes that film’s director, John Hillcoat, "will be directing, hopefully.” If the combination of these three talents is a fraction as good as The Proposition, then the film version of Bunny Munro should be more than worth the wait.
