It looks like viewers rooting for Nick and Jess to get together on New Girl will have a little longer to wait. Olivia Munn will be swooping in to complicate things as Angie, Nick's new love interest, in an upcoming guest arc on the Fox comedy series.
Deadline is reporting that Munn, who is best known these days for her role on the Aaron Sorkin-penned HBO series The Newsroom and an appearance in this summer's male stripper movie Magic Mike, will appear on the quirky comedy series this season. She'll play Angie, a new romantic interest for Nick (Jake Johnson).
The guest spot won't interfere with her role on The Newsroom, however. The actress will shoot her arc on New Girl before the second season of the hit HBO drama begins filming.
The news means that audiences hoping for romance to finally happen between Nick and his "adorkable" roommate Jess (Zooey Deschanel) will unfortunately have to face yet another obstacle. Last season their coupling was prevented by Nick's relationship with a sarcastic lawyer played by Party Down's Lizzy Caplan.
New Girl premiered its second season earlier this week with two new episodes. It airs Tuesday nights at 9 ET on Fox.
