Despite all the hand-wringing, the Live Nation/Ticketmaster is a done deal. The new company decided to ditch the Ticketmaster name all together; that Live Nation was the more palatble brand in the deal is an indication of how reviled the ticketing giant was with music fans. The merged company, however, may introduce policies such as "dynamic pricing" and venue exclusivity that will cause the days of Ticketmaster's convenience fees to be fondly remembered. Though some artists, such as Bruce Springsteen, oppose the merger and the attorney generals of New York, New Jersey, and other states are promising to look into the monopoly aspect, for now Live Nation Entertainment is the new big kid on the block. What effect this has on the already cash strapped concertgoer remains to be seen. Perhaps the age-old question will finally be answered: What if a huge corporate giant gives a concert and nobody comes? [Hypebot]
