New Yorkers invited for another dip in McCarren Park Pool

The future of McCarren Park Pool in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, seems uncertain. Plans to turn the space back into a pool are afoot, but Jelly NYC has scheduled at least one more year of shows in the makeshift venue. The actual dates of the shows haven’t been officially announced, although a quick search on last.fm reveals some of the schedule. Among the acts gracing the pool with their presence are the Breeders, the Hold Steady, Liars, Deerhunter, Fuck Buttons, Black Moth Super Rainbow, and MGMT. As in previous years, the Sunday shows are free, but you’ll have to stump up some $$ for the other dates.

In an ideal world the future pool will allow swimming and indie-rock to co-exist in perfect harmony. Lying on an air mattress and floating through the water as huge slabs of discordant guitar rain down from the stage—that sounds pretty close to my idea of heaven. And the idea of an underwater mosh pit is irresistible, although health and safety officials may have something to say about that. Keep checking this site for further details about the pool parties.
