The New York Times dissects Justin Timberlake's "hip" factor

Via: The New York Times
Now I know that the New York Times shouldn't reasonably be expected to provide cutting-edge, up to the minute commentary on "hip" music culture, but does it strike anyone else as extremely late in the game to publish an article now about how Timberlake is winning over hipsters everywhere? I mean, there's been signs of this since Justified, way back in 2002, and even FutureSex/LoveSounds was released this past September.
In any case, the article's out there now, so anyone who didn't know that Timberlake is cool kid tested and approved does now. The funny thing is, the author explicitly states that hipsters love Timberlake without seeming to understand what a "hipster" is.
The evidence presented throughout the article includes pointing out that members of Coldplay and Keane attend his shows, and that his music was a fashion week staple. Individuals with quotes professing their love for JT in the article include Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz and Anarchist Hardcore band R.A.M.B.O.'s frontman, Tony Croasdale. Now, I don't mean to be overly harsh here, but Melena Ryzik comes off like a soccer mom trying to impress her kid's friends on the ride home from practice. She just doesn't get it. I suppose some credit is due for speaking to Matt Johnson from Matt and Kim though.
One last note: Pitchfork didn't annoint JT "the new King of Pop." They were cribbing off Rolling Stone on that one. You can read the article here.
