New York Dolls to Celebrate New Album With Performance at CBGB's Location

David Johansen, Sylvain Sylvain and the three other guys who now comprise the New York Dolls will celebrate the May 5 release of 'Cause I Sez So with a show at the John Varvatos store that used to house CBGB's. While it would be easy, particularly with the attrition that has taken such a toll on the band, to write this off as a last ditch money grab by aging musicians long on reputation and always short on talent, the remaining New York Dolls are apparently serious about cementing the band's legacy as something more than cosmetics models. 'Cause I Sez So reunites the band with producer Todd Rundgren and the group played two shows at SXSW to generate interest in a possible distribution deal for the album. Until I see Rock of Love starring Buster Poindexter, I'm giving the band the benefit of the doubt. [Billboard]
