I got a nice little introduction to Six Parts Seven this year through their two appearances on the Suicide Squeeze 10 year retrospective, one backing Sam Beam and one on their own. Definitely right up my Japancakes/Explosions in the Sky post-rock alley. So I'm excited to see what their new album Casually Smashed to Pieces, out January 23rd, will bring. In a comparison that gets heaped on instrumental bands a lot, Suicide Squeeze calls the album "the soundtrack to a heartbreaking film that never existed." And apparently Casually Smashed is the band's shortest and most orchestrated to date. Links to two songs to appear on the album below... "Stolen Moments"
I like both of the new tracks although I can't remember ever not liking anything they've done. I hope they do another remix album too, the one they had with the Pedro the Lion and Iron & Wine was pretty good.
